For Your Home Inspection, Start with These Places

The home inspection is one of the most essential steps involved when buying a new house in Vancouver. While a listing on a multiple listing service (MLS) may hold all the important information buyers seek, it wouldn’t hurt for them to visit the listed properties in person and watch out for any defects. Buyers would do well to work with professional home inspectors who exactly what to look for.

A typical home inspection prioritizes kitchens and bathrooms because these rooms are directly related to the household’s health. The plumbing systems in these areas must be in excellent condition. All water pipes in these rooms should be tested for leaks and contamination.

Aside from preventing potential health issues, kitchen and bathroom inspections ensure that maintenance problems can be addressed early on. Remember that these rooms are also the most expensive to renovate and repair.

Basements also deserve a closer look. Inspectors need to be very particular with stains and signs of moisture, which often indicate that the basement has a plumbing and/or drainage problem.

Yet another room that needs to be inspected is the attic, particularly its ventilation system. A properly ventilated attic improves indoor comfort levels and can potentially reduce the household’s monthly electrical bills. Aside from this, roof shingles are less likely to suffer heat damage if the attic is well-insulated.
